This is my first post for 2012!

Its been a couple of very busy months here at Islander, we hired a new salesman Dean Barker in January and have already sold thirteen new pools thus far!

We are off to a great start to 2012 and hope your doing just as well!

In other pools news this article I found today:

Vacant swimming pools prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes

Cicero (WSYR-TV) — In the town of Cicero, where mosquitoes are particularly problematic, the focus has shifted to standing water, which is a breeding ground for the bugs. And swimming pools at vacant homes pose a very real threat in the battle against the bite.
Andy Nadeau, who lives next to an abandoned pool in Cicero, told NewsChannel 9, “I hope that we can get the whole thing cleaned up, but I’ll settle for the pool cleaned up.”
Fixing up a vacant property with a swimming pool would save more than just the value of the houses on the block. “It just helps so we can stay in our backyard longer,” Nadeau continued.
The standing water is an optimal breeding ground for mosquitoes. Neighbors in the area say the pool’s been abandoned for about a year and all the previous owners did was put a tarp over what’s now basically swamp water.
“You could tell that it was not attended to…wasn’t chlorinated and it just looked like a health hazard, an area where mosquitoes would congregate and breed,” said Cicero Town Supervisor Jim Corl.
Corl is proposing legislation that would give homeowners 30 days notice to clean up abandoned pools.
“The zoning department then can go back in, make the necessary changes like capping off the pool and whatever they think is adequate and charge whatever costs there are back to the homeowner to put on the tax roll,” Corl continued.
It could add up to thousands of dollars in upfront costs before the town gets the money back.
“When you have a significant health hazard such as this, I think residents will understand it’s a necessary cost and if we’re alleviating any breeding ground it’ll be well worth it,” Corl said.
Nadreau hopes it’ll send a strong message to his neighbor. “It’s people that don’t maintain their property. It’s a matter of respect and self respect more importantly. And they just don’t seem to have that,” he said.
With the pool cleaned up, Nadreau will be able to take his yard back from the mosquitoes.
The Cicero Town Board will be holding a public hearing about the proposed law on April 11.

Happy last month of 2011!

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Meanwhile here at Islander we acquired two new pool jobs in November and are getting started! The new jobs are located in Anaheim Hills and Corona.

For your convenience I will updating the blog with important pool news that comes in. Here is an article I recently came across:

“Is Your Swimming Pool Safe Year-round?”

Marianna, Florida – Chipola College Aquatics Director Rance Massengill said his heart goes out to the two separate families in Florida who lost toddlers to pool drownings Monday.

“We hate to hear it and we’re thinking about those families,” said Massengill.

<a href=”http://ad.doubleclick.net/jump/wn.loc.wjhg/home;tile=10;wnsz=10;sz=160×600;ord=8675309″ target=”_blank”><img src=”http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/wn.loc.wjhg/home;tile=10;wnsz=10;sz=160×600;ord=8675309″ width=”180″ height=”60″ border=”0″ alt=”"></aAccording to authorities, both children fell into their families’ pools, without anyone noticing.

“Drowing of children four and under is a very serious thing in the United States,” said Massengill.

Massengill, who’s been a water safety expert for years, said there are ways to stop these types of tragedies.

“The entire perimeter of the pool should be fenced off if you’re trying to keep people out,” said Massengill.

He also said pool covers can be effective but they must be weighed down. If someone does fall in the water, you must act fast.

“In a child that cannot swim, they’ll be unconscious in less than one minute,” said Massengill.

Massengill recommended throwing the victim a flotation device, only jumping in yourself if you have the proper training. Regardless, Massengill told News Channel 7 it should never come to that point.

“Having proper supervision at all times is the key to it,” said Massengill.

Safety experts said kids can drown in as little as a few inches of water.

SUMMARY:

Fantastic service and communication, years after the installation.

Review:

My husband and I hired Islander Pools about four years ago to install a custom pool in our backyard. We dealt directly with Frank, the owner of the company. We considered others, but went with Frank in the end because he was honest and forthcoming, and not like a salesperson. We trusted him from the get go, and he’s been there for us ever since, every time we’ve had a question. Frank is very personable, and has a good sense of humor. He still remembers us, and has never brushed us off because he’s already closed the deal. He doesn’t have to call us back after four years, but he does anyway. We are past the warranty period, yet he continues to send people out if we have issues or questions. What’s more, everybody loves our pool. We get so many compliments about it–the design is just great. In fact, we are in the process of selling our house, and the pool is the first thing that the buyers notice. We have listed before, and we always receive offers within the first week. Thanks to Islander Pools, our house is worth more. I really can’t say enough good things about them.
