In Southern California many homes enjoy fun in the sun right in their own backyard with a sparkling swimming pool. Whether you want a pool for exercise – swimming can burn 450-950 calories/hour, or just want to relax in the spa, or provide a fun place for all the family to hang out and beat the heat – a swimming pool is a popular addition that adds value to your home while enhancing your lifestyle.
One of the most popular types of pools is an in ground pool and for good reason. In ground pools offer the deepest swimming experience and can be customized - the possibilities for shape and size are endless. But before we professionally design your pool, we always start with a thorough assessment of your yard space and surroundings.
Once you have approved the custom design of your in ground concrete swimming pool/spa, forms are created to guide the excavating , then steel and Gunite, Earth is removed with tractors, steel is placed based on certified project specific engineering and then concrete is pneumatically applied with compressors. This process defines the pool shell. Before the concrete or Gunite (also sometimes referred to as Shotcrete) is applied, piping and plumbing fixtures are buried underground and laid throughout the pool shell.
An in ground swimming pool built with Gunite/Shotcrete is a very popular choice because it is extremely durable and as we mentioned before, can be customized and created in just about any free form or right angle shape. The method of spraying concrete or mortar (Gunite/Shotcrete) through a hose and pneumatically projecting it at high speed onto a surface that has reinforced with rebar, remains one of today’s best pool construction methods. It might surprise you to know that this method has been in use since 1911 and is still the preferred construction method for pools expected to last a lifetime.
